Our managing founder and owner is James (JB) Bents, an accomplished security and intelligence professional. JB retired from the FBI in 2021 after  24 years with the agency. At the time of his retirement, he was a Supervisory Special Agent managing the FBI’s operations and personnel in half of Oregon. Prior to that assignment, he served as an FBI representative to multiple countries overseas.  JB served in several FBI field offices, where he investigated violent crime, organized crime, white collar crime, and terrorism matters. He was also a member of both the Chicago and Portland FBI SWAT teams.

Prior to joining the FBI, JB served as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army. His service included tours with the 7th Infantry Division, 2-75th Ranger Regiment, and 1st Special Forces Group (A). JB graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds a graduate degree from Gonzaga University. He is an adjunct professor of Criminal Justice at Western Oregon University and, most recently, worked for Mandiant, leading investigative response to security incidents throughout the public sector. JB's professional affiliations include membership in the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, the FBI Agents Association, and the NW Fraud Investigators Association.  He also serves as an Ambassador for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which funds 4-year college educations for the children of fallen U.S. special operations warriors.

Alpine Overwatch was formed in 2022, when a small group of retired FBI agents committed to continuing to serve and secure the State of Oregon and beyond.  All of them served together in the FBI, on countless missions and investigations. Together, they remain focused on providing security consulting services and investigative support here in Oregon and beyond.

With over 80 years of combined federal service, our consultants and contractors possess extensive investigative and tactical experience. Our consultants have worked in over 20 countries, and each served with the FBI here in Oregon. Our consultants worked many of the FBI's most significant investigations, both domestically and abroad.

We work with an extensive cadre of retired Special Agents whose experience includes the leadership of various FBI units and offices, tactical teams, and complex investigations. Our consultants have briefed the White House, members of Congress, senior members of the U.S. military, and many other dignitaries. Here in the Pacific Northwest, they maintain strong relationships throughout the law enforcement community at the federal, state, and local levels.
